Sacraments:

Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament in which we are united with Christ in his death and resurrection. In this sacrament we are called to live a new life. We are anointed, set apart, and called to continue the ministry of Jesus: priest, prophet and king.

Parents who are seeking Baptism for their children are asking that their child be initiated into the Catholic Community and the local Church Community of                     St. Anthony's. The Church baptizes infants/children on the faith of the parents. The ideal is that parents have a deep faith, which they actively live out in the experience of the Catholic Church Community. Children's faith is learned from their parents. We consider children from birth through the age of five to be infants. Children 6 years old and up who need to be baptized must attend religious education classes prior to baptism.

Our parish requires attendance at one Baptismal preparation session before the Baptism takes place. The preparation sessions are usually held the Tuesday preceding the weekend of the Baptisms at 7:00PM. They are usually offered on the first and last Saturday and Sunday of the month.

Completion of a Baptismal registration form is required prior to attending the class. A copy of the child's birth certificate should be presented by the parents at the church office in order to register for the Baptismal preparation session. Godparents must be active Catholics, be at least 18 years old and have completed all sacraments. If godparents are married, their marriage must have been blessed in the church (proof is required). Parents and godparents are required to attend a Baptismal preparation session or show proof that they have attended a class within the last 3 years. To cover church expenses the parish suggests a contribution. This contribution can be paid at the parish office at the time of registration and or no later than the first session.

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

The Sacrament of Reconciliation celebrates and reminds us of God's mercy and helps us to experience divine forgiveness, to forgive ourselves, and to become reconciled with others. The Sacrament of Reconciliation or confession is celebrated several times a week. For specific times, see the church bulletin. In addition, our parish also conducts seasonal Reconciliation Services with extra Confessors available. These services are usually scheduled during the Lenten and Advent seasons.

Sacrament of Confirmation

This sacrament takes place through our Religious Education programs.

Holy Matrimony

For Catholics, marriage is a sacrament. It involves the commitment of two persons to each other. Marriage is also something more, it is a calling to follow Christ in a particular way. It is a concrete expression of how two people will live their lives in Christ. Marriage and family life are not easy. There are many challenges. We invite people contemplating marriage to reflect on this commitment. It is necessary to contact the parish priest or deacon at least six to eight months in advance before the planned wedding date. Plans should not be finalized until the family meets with the parish priest or deacon. There are preparation sessions and certain documents are required. The priest or deacon will set a meeting with the couple to go over all the necessary requirements.

Sacraments for the ill and homebound

Anointing of the Sick celebrates and reminds us of God's compassion and helps us to experience spiritual and physical strengthening when we are ill. Please call the Church office to relay the information of the person to be visited, whether at home or in the hospital or nursing home. For emergencies, call the rectory.
